Has your business improved its health and safety in 2021?
How do you know? What are you measuring?
What does better look like?
There's the obvious; less harm done, measure...
But that isn't a measure of improvement, it's a measure of the absence of harm...
And there are various ways that can happen, here are a few...
- Employ less people
- Do less work
- Do more work in a less hazardous environments
- Report less harm done
- Make reporting harm done, difficult
- Tell everyone that all accidents are preventable
- Make people feel that having accidents, are incongruent with the companies safety philosophy. (Zero Harm)
- Employ safety managers to manage safety
- Report lagging indicators to boards
- Report the minutiae to directors
- Discipline workers for safety breaches
- Demand a culture of Personal Responsibility
If you measure injuries as a core component of your H&S performance and you want to show improvement in 2022, do a combination of the above, you'll be surprised how effective they will be.
You too can look good to your shareholders.
